-Introduction

This lesson was developed as part of the Westlake City School Districts's curriculum based on the NASPE Standards.

The is lesson can be used to help integrate technology into a subject area that is mainly physical in nature.

-Learners

This project is designed to complement the Physical Education II course offered to high school 10th graders. This assignment is designed to help students, who have a strong desire to live a healthy lifestyle, develop and modify a workout plan they can perform for a lifetime.

Prior to beginning this webquest, students should be comfortable with entering data into a spreadsheet. Students should also be able to perform basic page layout operations using both text and graphics.  Students should be able to browse the Internet using a web browser.

Standards

Standard 4 - Achieves and maintains a health-enhancing level of physical fitness.

Benchmark:

11-12: Use principles of training for the purpose of modifying levels of fitness.

11-12: Participate in a variety of health-enhancing physical activities in school.

Indicator:

The student will... Participate in a variety of physical activities appropriate for enhancing physical fitness.

The student will... Understand personal fitness status in terms of cardiovascular endurance, muscular strength and endurance, flexibility, and body composition.

The student will... Design and implement a personal fitness program.

-Process

1. You will be assigned a partners for this project.

2. Gives students time in class to discuss what role they will play on the project and their duties

3. Be able to give guidance on web searches.

4. Be able to provide support on MS Excel, MS Word,  MS Publisher, and Hemera PhotoObjects software. Present sample Infographics.

5. Allow multiple in-class opportunities for partners to work together.  A lab environment is preferred with a minimum 1:2 computer to student ratio for computer use.

-Resources Recommended

  1. One computer for each group
  2. Lab environment with internet access
  3. Software: page layout, spreadsheet, stock clipart
  4. Notebook
  5. Web site linked in this webquest
